Server Issue Update

At the time of this writing, all clients have been updated to the outsourced DNS provider. From my testing an additional bonus to this move is lightning fast DNS resolution and propagation. All clients are on this new service and are up and running at full capacity.

The new server has been purchased and the Sloane Technologies website is online on the new server. I have been tracking the performance of the new server as well as the old server for three days now. During this small sample period both servers are showing a 100 per cent uptime. However the new server is averaging about half of the response times. For you this will mean that your websites will load faster to clients in the United States.

I will begin moving clients over next weekend if the testing continues to show these results.

Again, I would like to thank you for your patience through this unfortunate situation. And assure you that I am doing everything I can to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Server issues

We have been having some problems with the primary server for Sloane Technologies webhosting. We have not been receiving the 99.9% uptime we expected. We also have been having long response times. There have been several maintenance issues that have included downtime. Finally, this week the web server went offline and was unrecoverable within a few hours. Due to these issues and careful evaluation of our usages, I have decided that we need a new provider.

What I am planning on doing is starting a server with a different provider with slightly different options which will provide better service for you. I will also be outsourcing our DNS services to a company with a service agreement of 100 per cent uptime and the reputation to back up those agreements. Outsourcing our DNS will allow for 100 per cent uptime for our email services regardless of what is going on at the datacenter. We are currently utilizing a server with vastly more resources then we require. Dropping these resource requirements will allow us to move companies without any significant change in price. Other benefits to this migration include more efficient on site backups, additional IP addresses, and more reputable customer service.

What does this all mean to you? Well if you are currently paying for hosting, I will not be raising your rates at this time. And for the trouble of my poor choice in datacenters I will be giving you one free month of hosting added to the end of your current billing cycle. There might be some down time for the transfer, but it should be minimal compared to the outage we experienced this week.

I have already moved forward on outsourcing our DNS services. Though this feature has not been rolled out to all clients it is working for all clients currently usingns1.sloanetechnologies.com. I will be rolling it out to everyone else shortly. Consider this a pilot test.

I have also moved forward on choosing a provider for our new web server. After extensive research I believe I have found a provider that offers us what we need for a decent price point. I will be starting up the server this week and will be testing throughout the rest of the month. I plan on transferring clients starting next month with a planned completion within the month of December.

I would like to express my apologies for this situation. I take full responsibility for this problem and hope that this resolution is equitable to all of you. If you have questions or concerns please contact me.
